Rathnayake is an active Sri Lankan businessman, entrepreneur, and political personality with decades of experience in both the corporate and entrepreneurial landscapes. As the Chairman of Navodya Group of Companies and Director of Finance and HR of Nikado Company (Pvt) Ltd, he has significantly contributed to the economic growth of the country. His leadership extends beyond business, reflecting a strong commitment to social responsibility and corporate stewardship.

Coming from a farming family in Monaragala village, Mr. Rathnayake studied at Udagangoda Kanishta Vidyalaya, Monaragala, before continuing to Badulla Passara Central College for his advanced level studies. In 1983, he was one of only four students from the commerce section of that school to pass the A Levels and earn a university degree. His journey was not easy; his strong determination to complete his education without burdening his parents was evident as he earned extra income through farming activities during his school days, laying a solid foundation for his future business endeavors. Understanding the struggles of his community, Rathnayake's interest in politics blossomed early, allowing him to work as a student activist for the Janata Vimukti Peramuna during his university years. While there’s no need to dwell on the past, it’s noteworthy that during a crisis in Sri Lanka, Mr. Rathnayake moved to Colombo in 1988 for his professional education a pivotal moment in his life, showcasing his innate ability to create opportunities from challenges.

Rathnayake began his career during his university days, working as a tuition teacher for A/L accounting while completing his Bachelor of Business Administration Honours from the University of Ruhuna. Later, he completed his MBA from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. In 1991, he took his first professional step as an Assistant Accountant at CIC Paints Lanka. The following year, he joined Ford, Rhodes, Thornton & Co. (known as KPMG) as an Audit Trainee. By 1993, he was with SJMS Associates (Deloitte - Sri Lanka), where he progressed from tax assistant to senior tax manager over more than a decade.

Despite the challenges of balancing a demanding professional career with entrepreneurial ambitions, Rathnayake embraced each challenge as an opportunity. In 1999, he founded Navodya Tours, marking the beginning of a successful venture into business. His entrepreneurial journey expanded to various industries with the launch of Navodya Tyre Lanka (Pvt) Ltd in 2005, followed by Navodya Agriculture and Navodya Travels (Pvt) Ltd in 2010. These ventures have not only grown into successful enterprises but have also created numerous job opportunities across Sri Lanka.

Rathnayake’s dedication to corporate social responsibility (CSR) is evident through his role as a founding member of SJMS Associates' CSR team, which he has led since 2000. Under his leadership, the team organized numerous CSR initiatives, enhancing the firm’s reputation while upholding social commitments that transcended ethnic and religious boundaries. Moreover, he has diligently fulfilled his civic duty by making personal income tax payments for over 15 years, demonstrating his commitment to public accountability.

Rathnayake combines professional expertise, entrepreneurial success, and a deep commitment to social responsibility. His leadership in multiple industries and dedication to community welfare make him an ideal candidate for Parliament. I am contesting from the Gampaha district to support its skillful youth and entrepreneurs. Through Nikado company and related businesses, generate over 300 job opportunities across the Gampaha district, positively impacting many families. My goal is to create more opportunities for small and medium businesses, By focusing on economically viable crops and providing access to international market knowledge and technology, I aim to raise the standard of living in the district and help its people reach their full potential.

I joined the Sarvajana Balaya because our country urgently needs a strong opposition capable of effecting meaningful change. With so many educated young people leaving the country, we must direct their potential to drive development.
